Barbuda:A dream of an island
Surrounded by endless bright white or pale pink beaches lapped by the glistening turquoise-coloured sea, and populated by exotic birds, deer and other wild game. Antigua’s little sister comes pretty close to the perfect dream of a tropical island. Not quite 1,500 people inhabit the 25 km long and 15 km wide island of Barbuda, but there are 170 different kinds of birds. A colony of 10,000 majestic frigate birds with wingspans of up to 1.80 m has selected the island’s lagoon as a breeding area. A sunken jungle lies hidden in a massive cave opening. The rich and famous easily pay 1,000 dollars a night in one of the two small but exclusive hotels of the island. Less well-heeled visitors can join the island’s easy-going lifestyle at one of the simpler guest houses in Codrington, Barbuda’s only village.
